Superbosses may be defined as business leaders who not only build organizations, but also develop their philosophies and sustain them over a period of time. They do not believe in the new maxim of talent recruitment having become a science. In this case they still believe partly in the older values of instinct and gut feeling. They can sniff out talent from unorthodox situations in unexpected places. Examples of such visionary leaders includes the likes of Ralph Lauren to the fashion industry, Alice Waters in restaurants, Jay Chiat in advertising, Bill Walsh in professional sports, Miles Davis in jazz music and Lorne Michaels to broadcasting. A lot of their crazy ideas of recruitment may go against the standard practices of HR professionals, yet such methods have often succeeded with spectacular results.
