The concept of Followership has not attracted as much of management literature as leadership, but demands greater scrutiny. Being the right follower, can paradoxically turn one into the better leader when the time is opportune. Followership does not entail a blind faith, but rather knowing how to tactically execute the corporate strategy at the ground level. For a start, the follower must have the pulse of his/her leader’s comfort zone. This includes questions such as the leader’s background, values, confidence levels, fears, past failures, aspirations and status of social life. Once the comfort zone has been identified, the subordinate must strive to stay within those limits. However, beyond a certain point, he/she must also try to expand this comfort zone to include broader aspects.
