MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

The turbulent economy and the currency crisis in Argentina is bad news not only for the country itself, but indeed for the entire region. The currency has been devalued, leading to fears in neighbouring Chile and Uruguay. Inflation too is now very high. Uruguay is particular is extremely dependent on inbound travelers from Argentina, with nearly a third of the cumulative source first half this year. In Chile too, Argentinians make up more than half the inbound travelers. Business intelligence provided by the Chilean Federation of Tourism Companies confirmed that tourism revenues for this year are expected to come down by more than six percent. Thus the country’s board will now focus on other markets such as Brazil, USA, France, Germany and even Asian countries.
