MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

The government of Senegal wants the country to be amongst the top five destinations in Africa for inbound tourism by the year 2023. For this several steps are being taken. At present, tourism makes up a tenth of the country’s GDP, while nine percent of all employment is in tourism jobs. The rate of growth has also been impressive, clocking at around seven percent. The new Museum of Black Civilizations, opened in the capital of Dakar, has been a major hit, as have the Monument of the African Renaissance and the megalitihic circles in the south of the country in Senegambia. Tourism consulting firm Horwath HTL has been making the right noises on how Senegal is poised for substantial growth in the sector. A diversified offering needs to be established better to achieve the same.
