How 4 Retailers became “Best places to Work”
In a study conducted by Glassdoor, the best retail companies to work in were voted as HEB, Costco, Trader Joe’s and QuikTrip. While each of these pays more than the industry average, there is more to it than that why they are such popular places for their employees. HEB has created a culture of “restless dissatisfaction” as the president claims where there is a relentless drive to be the best at customer servicing, employee engagement and business innovation. Its employees are called partners and they are given bonuses each year which they need to justify through their work. Almost in all instances, the employees turn out winners due to the right environment created. Costco believes that retailing involves people and thus it is pertinent that the best available are recruited to be then trained. At QuickTrip, employee training is based on enormous data collected to get authentic business intelligence on requirements and performances. At Trader Joe’s, employees are empowered from the ground level up so that there is no lag in decision making that will improve the service provided to customers.
