MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

Thailand has broken yet another inbound travel record, this time in the field of medical tourism. But that is not all, as trends suggest this year could be even better. A total of more than thirty-five million foreign visitors arrived for medical purposes on Thailand last year spending a sum of nearly two trillion baht in the process. So far, in the first quarter of this year, a third of the arrivals figure has already been surpassed. There has even been a change in the source markets, as Chinese arrivals have increased by a margin of thirty percent. China has as a result been pulled up to top spot among source markets, with Malaysia second. India is another market growing rapidly, with business intelligence received putting the figure at a seventeen percent upward climb. Laos, Russia, South Korea, Vietnam, Japan, USA and UK are the other major markets. Among regions, East and South Asia are the biggest source of increase, followed by Europe, though Africa and the Americas still lag behind.
