Contrary to popular perception, tourism is not just the prerogative of the safest of countries. In fact, some of the most dangerous countries, have also taken steps to get inbound tourists on board there. One such example is Pakistan, that has taken the step of creating a website titled “Discover Pakistan”, in French. This innovation ensures that the visa process and other formalities get eased up substantially. Neighboring Afghanistan meanwhile, has created its own Ministry of Tourism. Syria was once a prominent player in international tourism, but for obvious reasons of safety has hit rock bottom. But now the Syrian Ministry of Tourism is engaging heavily in to digital marketing with the “Syria Always Beautiful” campaign, especially on social media. Most striking though, is that even North Korea has created a massive tourist complex, to boost inbound tourism.
