National tourism boards spend outrageous sums of money to broadcast their countries’ tourism potential and the best of sites. This is something that for three countries is now being done by a hugely popular TV series. For Spain, Croatia and Ireland, the Game of Thrones (GOT) TV series is proving to be a godsend, as tourists are flocking in large numbers to catch the shooting locales. Season 7 of the show saw a whopping thirty – one million viewers, with numbers only expected to add up, in the ongoing eight and final season. GOT’s digital marketing outreach is also massive with twenty- three million followers on Facebook, eight million on Twitter and a further nine million on Instagram. Viewers curiosity has been aroused to explore the sites associated with the show such as Belfast in Northern Ireland, Dubrovnik in Croatia and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe in Spain.
