MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

An oft ignored maxim is that the morning mood affects the entire workday for most people. Positive events have an equally fruitful ripple effect and the same goes with negative happenings. A leading management consultingpublication conducted a study to measure the impact of morning mood in the workplace. Not surprisingly those with better mood were better at customer interaction with fewer grammatical errors, a more polite mannerism and lesser breaks taken in between work. What happens at home, is beyond the control of the manager or the organization, yet few steps can be taken to boost employee morale. First thing in the morning, the team leader may send some motivational messages. The team may gather for a symbolic huddle. Also the managers must avoid sending late night barrage of emails as that may also increase stress levels of employees by affecting their sleep patterns.
