MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

Deloitte has conducted a study in association with MIT to identify the elements to be put in place while developing a leadership pipeline. First of all, such companies put in a lot of focus on corporate culture so that each person is well- drilled as to what the overall corporate strategy of the organization is. GE for example talks of simplicity, execution and innovation. Such companies also design their structure to develop well-rounded leaders. They allow room for taking risks. These companies believe that the best method of management training is through genuine exposure across a variety of projects. Knowledge does not stay trapped in silos at such places but travels across the organization. An important point to note is that such companies do have leadership development programmes but they are holistically designed with focus on business and not run exclusively by the HR as at several other places.
