MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

While one graduates from executive to management especially the middle levels, one learns to stop being a simple doer but instead focuses on leadership skills. It becomes more important to inspire others to get work done rather than micromanage. Even CEOs are created from a similar pipeline however, the experiences they require are quite unique. A lot of CEOs forget two basic things which helped them all along to rise up the levels- empathy and self awareness. Very few end up conducting enough self reflection. Also power does corrupt. People forget that some of the reasons why people star behaving differently with them is not their own personality but simply the position the chair affords them. While every CEO does get a handle on emotional intelligence along the journey, for a lot it is at a superficial level. Thus CEOs must realize that genuine management training is not possible without some form of personal growth. Family, health and work place ethics must go on parallel along with professional development.
