Date: 24th Feb 2012 Book Reading Session on “a Famous work- The Great Indian Novel”

On February 24th, 2012, a Talk was delivered by Dr. Shashi Tharoor at Epicentre, Gurgaon. Dr. Tharoor is a renowned Indian author, having penned some of the most famous novels coming out of the genre of modern Indian English writing. He has also served as Under-Secretary General at the United Nations & is presently an MLA in the state of Kerala.
Skyline Business School received an invitation for the Talk & was represented by Mr. Aritro Dasgupta, Faculty & Marketing Manager. The event was a grand success. The hostess for the night was Ms. Advaita Kala, who is an author & has also written film scripts. She got the evening started off with a tete-e-tete with the audience on her life & present career. Then she got into the discussion with Dr. Tharoor who was requested to do a book-reading of any of his novels. Dr. Tharoor duly obliged by doing a book-reading session on his most famous work- The Great Indian Novel. He then spoke about the context in which the book was written & what certain parts pertain to. He did a particular rendition of parts of the novel which were particularly hilarious & satirical. On audience requested he read some parts of some other works by himself. The Ms. Kala spoke to the speaker on various issues of his life & career. Topics discussed included his schooling & impacts that made on his life, his travels, his experiences with UN, his experiences as an MLA & how he sees himself as an author. Dr. Tharoor also explained the context behind some of his comments which he had made which were blown out of proportion. This was followed by a round of audience questions.
The evening was concluded a round of book signing which Dr. Tharoor did. Some of the audience members had brought in their personal copies to the hall, while some others purchased new copies from Epicentre where some of his books were up for sale. The fans obviously felt a great amount of thrill to see their copies signed by one of the legendary writers of modern India.
