The theme of the Talk was to educate the students about the pharmaceutical industry as a whole & to talk about the career options that management students have in the sector. He spoke about the challenges & the volatility in this industry.
While speaking about the industry as a whole, Mr Ratti explained that pharma is a recession free business. The total industry is worth around Rs. 65 thousand crore rupees with an average growth of greater than 16 %. There are more than 2500 companies in India. There is however, a dearth of management professionals working in the industry with mostly medical professionals running the show.
The students then wanted to know some specific facts about where India stands in the overall world pharma industry. The speakers explained that India was expected to be the world’s largest market for the same by the year 2015. Also with pharma chains diversifying to the rural sector, many more jobs are likely to be generated at the grassroots level. The session ended with the speakers giving an overview about the institute they represent, thus fillings students’ thoughts on further aspirations.
