The top business leaders or management thinkers are often asked about the right leadership styles. The expectation is that a single key word or group of fancy words will be touted. Yet the truly authentic business style is very difficult to execute when pigeonholed within any of the conventionally known styles- autocratic, democratic or laissez-faire. Instead truly effective leadership is being one’s true self. Situational leadership emerges by constant trial and error. Executive coaching and management training sessions have revealed that leaders must start by defining the attributes they identify as their values. This list must be constantly reviewed as circumstances and personalities change with time. Some values ought to be non-negotiable. Some will be particularly hard to execute. The true self of the individual then comes out and needs to be transparent to ensure alignment between the inherent values and visible actions.
