MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

Tourism is one of the most significant industries in Egypt bringing substantial amounts of foreign exchange. The inbound arrivals have reduced since the 2011 uprising against the then-president Hosni Mubarak, though signs of recovery have been witnessed in the last two years. Prior to the revolution, the number of inbound arrivals were pegged at about fifteen million. Tourism jobs were then aplenty. Now, the minister of tourism in Egypt wants to diversify the tourism offerings in order to expand on the so-far recovering base. She wants something for all categories of tourists, be they leisure, package, backpacker or a culture connoisseur. One key project to increase this windfall is expected to be the development of the town of El-Alamein, which is near Alexandria. Investments are also being sought for projects around Cairo and the Suez Canal.
