The Mexican Caribbean region is beset with a unique problem. The region has been inundated with a outgrowing of the dreaded Sargassum weed. This could hamper tourism in this region. To cope with this, hotels here will provide a discount of between fifteen and twenty percent to the customers. This has been mentioned by the President of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism. The Sargassum seaweed is invasive, leading to destruction of native habitat here, besides a potential loss in tourism jobs. The region expects a total of nearly seventy million tourists during the holiday season from July to August. While majority of these tourists would be domestic, substantial numbers of inbound travelers also arrive from Canada, USA and from Europe.
