MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

While the world of tourism has seen several business innovations that have challenged the existing models, and crated new revenue streams, there have also been a fair share of disasters. One such were the World Islands, developed on the Persian Gulf off Dubai. Its misfortune was the financial crisis of 2008 which put an end to this project’s hopes of success. Another is the new airport in Berlin, set initially for its inauguration in 2011, but constantly put back. Its latest date has been set for 2021. Yet another is the New South China Mall in Dongguan, which has been a huge loss in terms of land wastage. The Estadio Nacional de Brasilia met a similar fate after being opened up for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but with little use post the mega event. The last on the list, is the Harmon Hotel in Las Vegas. This was such a failure, that in 2013, it was decided to completely demolish the structure.
