Due to the proliferation of Airbnb’s business model, the hotel industry is in for further swings in trends. One of them is the fact that luxury hotels will get smaller in size but will be even more expensive. This is because the middle segment will almost disappear, yielding instead to the Airbnb style brands. The luxury hotel segment will need to respond by introducing further business innovations to remain relevant for the top- end. So, luxurious facilities will need to provided in the future plus unique offerings. The middle segment will also up the ante in terms of facilities, without disturbing the price bracket. This, it will manage by reducing staff costs.
