Madrid fighting UK prevalence in Film Tourism
Madrid is hoping to compete with the UK from being the most dominant player in the film tourism market. This trend has gained traction thanks to the proliferation of various TV series which account for about an eighty million tourists worldwide, as per business intelligence supplied by TCI Research. The City Council of Madrid, further adds that in 2019 alone, nearly twelve- thousand applications were received for filming spaces in the city. Barcelona too received more than eight- thousand of them in 2018. Tourism consulting firm Olsberg and Spi claims that the figure is still far away from the five million received by the town of Alnwick in UK. The town is home to the Hogwarts Castle from the Harry Potter series. The Spain Film Office is working to catch on this trend, with each autonomous community having an office of its own.
