Medical tourism is growing at a brisk pace especially in some countries. Different countries specialize in varied aspects of the same. Barbados, Hungary, Mexico and Thailand are all renowned for certain niche areas. But as per statistics provided by the International Medical Travel Journal (IMTJ), the USA ranks first in the world in terms of inbound medical travelers. South Korea follows on rank two, further trailed by Turkey, Thailand and Germany completing the top five. The total value of this industry has been pegged by the research firm- Allied Market Research– at US$ 61 billion. An increasing number of middle-class patients are traveling to Asia go get their medical treatments done. Reliable data is not always easy to avail because of different countries treating the definition of medical travel with separate components. The UK for example also includes data for spa visits here, which many others do not as that is more part of wellness rather than medical care.
