Older and Wiser? How Management Style varies with Age
The old adage “older and wiser”, seems to be true for the field of management. This is certainly a field where years of experience tend to have a positive impact. Younger managers tend to have a more technical approach, which ends up being narrow. Older ones work through others, focusing on the overall corporate strategy, rather than the finer details. Age diversity has increased tremendously in the work place. As a result, now there is a pressing need to appreciate the differing concerns of the divergent age groups and generations. Age matters due to several reasons, one of which being the biological effect. Another is the generational effect.
