MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

Thailand has anyway been one of the tourism hotspots for long, but now it is expanding further. The country has seen a 15.4% increase this year in tourist arrivals. A total of over thirty-seven million inbound travelers are expected this year. All this success however has led to major challenges of garbage disposal in the country. Tourism consulting provided by environmental group CORE-sea goes to the extent of calling the industry as responsible for visible pollution of the seas and coasts of Thailand. Maya Bay on Phi-Phi Island has already borne the brunt and is on the verge of destruction. A total of more than twenty-seven million garbage bags were dumped in the country last year alone. The tourist influx is only expected to grow, so a holistic plan needs to be brought in to solve this impending crisis.
