The barriers to international travel have reduced substantially over the past three decades. Juts to cite an aspect, the percentage of travelers who required a visa to travel abroad has gone down from 75% in 1980 to a mere 53% now. Several countries in the world are highly dependent on tourism for its national incomes, with developed countries being particularly well- poised to take over this mantle. USA, Spain and France are locked in contest to emerge as the world’s first tourism superpower. The frequency of leisure travel too has now gone up to 56%, as per business intelligence received from the World Tourism Organization (WTO). Another set of data affirms, that tourism is worth over ten percent of global GDP. Tourism jobs are also responsible for a fifth of all employment generated since the year 2013.
