MANAGING in the

NEW WORLD

Some leadership guidelines have been identified that will come in handy during the digital age. First of all, the external environment needs to be understood free of any pre-existing biases. Digitization might imply a transformation of the company mission. The impact to be expected post digitization needs to be clearly spelt out including the meaning and benefits. Digitization does not merely imply an understanding by the top management and the technology team, but indeed company-wide adoption. The company culture must support and only then will digitization really work. A greater level of collaboration is now needed. Constant engagement with the audience is needed as digital marketing has become extremely powerful, but can even end up hurting a company’s reputation. Here, the company’s corporate strategy needs to be pervasive and contiguous. Decision making must be based around sound bites derived through authentic, verifiable data. Digitization, more than ever before will allow a company to cut across geographical barriers and enter new markets. The process requires a constant change that needs to be managed.
