Speaker: Mr. Anil Kumar Sinha- F.C.A. Chief Manager (Finance) in ‘Power Grid Corporation of India Limited’
 He gave insight specially emphasizing about his experience in different companies as well as on finance related and other department related topics like:-
1. Fiscal value of money.
2. Work in different department in the organization.
3. Interpersonal relationship in the organization.
4. Profit vs. wealth maximization.
5. Role of financial department of the particular organization in India.
6. HR opportunities in India.

 

The session was quite interactive. The speaker shared his viewpoints over the emerging issues on the subject.Emphasised one the role of good personality, in order to attain desired position in the organization. Moreover he told us about his experience in Gujrat Ambuja Cement and JK Cement. Students from Skyline College were also given an opportunity to share their views and clear their doubts. Overall it was a very good learning experience on part of the students.

Date: 3rd Sep 2011 Seminar on ”Corporate World: Good, Bad or Ugly”
Location: Skyline Business School- Hauz Khas Campus
Speaker: Mr. Rajat Sabharwal, Former Managing Director, Alstom India

Mr. Rajat Sabharwal conducted a seminar on ”Corporate World: Good, Bad or Ugly”. In this session he discussed several aspects related to his experiences with Alstom, a French Multinational which works in the field of telecom & other communication channels. He also gave information about the work he has done over the years in his various positions.

 

The key points discussed were:
1. Ways to adapt to the corporate world.
2. Be clear on what to expect from a job.
3. What are the major expectations of seniors.
4. Certain key traits which are bound to help in the corporate world include
• Responsibility
• Initiative
• Positive Attitude
• Hard Work
• ‘Solution provider’ not ‘problem finder’
• Challenge the ‘incorrect’

Date : 2nd Sep 2011 Seminar on ”Careers in HR”  

 

Location: Skyline Business School- Gurgaon Campus
Speaker: Ms. Sushma Gupta, Corporate Consultant               

The speaker for today’s enlightening seminar was Ms. Sushma Gupta a corporate consultant specialising in HR and organisation development. She did her graduation from St.Stephen’s college in Economic (Hons.) and completed her post graduation in MBA from IIM Calcutta. She joined Maruti Udyog in HR field and worked there for 15 years, after which she joined Hero Motors as the Vice President. She is currently working for her own consultancy firm along with which she does career counseling, aptitude assessment and interview training.
 
A lot of information and experiences she shared with us relating to the field of Human Resources. It was a very engrossing interaction which resulted in a successful industry interface.
 
Some important pieces of advice shared were:
• know where you are going
• humility is the key to learning and success
• never get into an over confidence zone
Questions discussed:
• Q1. What is the scope in the field of Human Resources?
• Ans: It requires the ability to judge people and being sensitive to what people want. Not suitable for people who are introverts. There is a lot of scope in Industrial Relations these days.
 
• Q2. What are the opportunities in the field of Finance?
• Ans: It’s a very interesting field but one has to be well versed with accounting concepts.

• Q3.What is the role of a HR in media industry?
• Ans: HR’s role in every field is the same. There is no difference

All in all it was a very intellectual, interactive and knowledgeable seminar. The speaker also spoke about his experiences over several years in the field in HR field. Students from Skyline College were also given an opportunity to share their views and clear their doubts. Overall it was a very good learning experience on part of the students. The speaker was kind enough to clarify all our doubts.

Location: Skyline Business School-Gurgaon Campus
Speaker: Mr. Dipak Ranjankar and Mr. Rajesh Chutani, Regional Managers of ‘Ciena’ – North India. 
Dipak Ranjankar and Mr. Rajesh Chutani conducted seminar on ” An insight on the Telecom sector”. In this session they discussed several telecom related topic and also gave knowledge about their company and related management terms like:-
The key points discussed were:
1. Use of 40G/ 1000G Transmission Technology.
2. Powerful market forces and impact on metro networks.
3. Sales contracting work chart.
4. SWOT Analysis and marketing terms like- Segmenting, targeting and positioning.
5. Sales distribution strategy and
6. “Ciena” in India, its business objective and special services.

 

They also told us about the brief history of the company and its position in the world.

Mr. Amit Sinha, Director-Akshamaala Pvt. Ltd.conducted seminar on Entrepreneurship in practice – In the Indian context”.He did his B.tech. from ISM Dhanbad (2000) & MBA from IIM Calcutta (2003). He has worked for 9 yrs. With big companies like Pricewaterhousecoopers, Airtel, Keane consulting, one97 communicating, and Infosys tech. ltd.Presently, he is working with Akshamaala solution Pvt. Ltd since one year.

He gave insight specially; on the Entrepreneurial Practices in the Indian context. Moreover he emphasized on the various aspects of the subject. The key points discussed were:
1. Types of entrepreneurship.
2. How and where to start a Business?
3. Questions which one should ask about entrepreneurship.
4. Financing lifecycle.
5. Decision making
6. 4Ps of marketing.
7. Capability and quality of team.
8. Building a business plan.
9. Three competencies of the complete entrepreneur.

Mr. K.K.Verma, alumni of IIT-Kharagpur, who has been working in development sector since last 34 years. Mr. Verma had undergone Management training in Health and Family Planning Programs from Management Sciences for Health, Boston, USA. Mr. K Verma had the privilege of working with Government of India, International NGOs and the United Nations as a representative prior to working with Smile Foundation as Director and is presently working with Childreach International India as Director-Programs.

He gave insight specially emphasizing that each individual has certain responsibility towards the society and informed about his own organization and how our college students can get associated with various projects. Individual Social responsibility could be anything right from helping a blind man cross the road to cleaning up garbage piled up in the park next to one’s home to feeding poor children etc.Though government is overall responsible for national development, but development touches every life and all are equal stakeholders. So it is time for coming forward, owning up and taking responsibility.Its time for Individual Social responsibility that includes the engagement of each person towards the community where he lives, which can be expressed as an interest towards what is happening in the community.

 

 

“It is for an individual to decide what, where and how he wants to bring a change.”

Skyline had organized a Freshers’ cum Farewell for MBA students.

 

 

Before describing the party, I heartily want to thank entire Skyline Family for arranging such a marvelous party to bid farewell to out seniors and a very warm welcome to all the new faces at Skyline. The venue of the party was Blue Eye Disc at Sahara Mall Gurgaon.As the party was about to begin the students were seen in colorful dresses with joyful faces. As soon as the party began, everyone was in full spirits to enjoy the evening.

 

 

 

The party started with a small introductory session by the new faces (juniors) and then a small presentation by all the seniors. This served as the basis for selecting Mr. and Ms Skyline and Mr. Fresher. The final decision was taken by our panel of judges, which included our faculty members (Subramanian Sir, Nitin Sir, Pallavi Madam and Bushra Madam).

Moreover there were other events that were organized. All this made the evening wonderful. The entire Skyline family was thoroughly enjoying. At the end, we all rocked the dance floor. Students as well as the faculty members danced together, making it an evening to remember foreoever.

 

After the dance, the faculty announced Mr. and Ms Skyline and Mr. Fresher. They were presented with bouquets and there was also a cake cutting ceremony.

 

 

In whole, the event was a success as we all enjoyed a lot. Although we felt sad, that our seniors will be leaving the campus, but at the same time we warmly welcomed our juniors. Lastly would like to thank our faculty members, who took out their valuable time to be a part of this memorable event. Moreover all the students who organized a party also need a good acknowledgement for their efforts.
