Greenland plans to focus more on its tourism. For this purpose, its two airports are set for expansion by the year 2023. The frequency of direct flights from the USA and Europe can thus be increased. However, there are environmental fears to such business innovations. Climate change has already compromised a significant part of the ice, which is now thawing quicker than at any point before. The native inhabitants have also faced increased challenges to their livelihoods, with hunting area being threatened due to rising temperatures. Tourism would also contribute to increased carbon dioxide emissions, thereby causing havoc to the world’s second largest ice sheet.

Unlike Paris where the company is thriving, Uber is facing flak, and even being banned in several other European cities. Barcelona, Budapest, Sofia and Frankfurt are just four of the prominent names. The whole of Denmark and Turkey have done likewise. In London, something to this extent was initiated, but later withdrawn. Even outside Europe, the American transportation giant faces much flak. One such country in Australia, where the Northern Territory has enforced a complete ban on Uber, due to issues surrounding its licensing fee. In China, it is the local giant Didi Chuxing that rules the roost, not allowing for Uber to prosper. Several business innovations have been launched by Uber, the world over to tackle this seemingly declining popularity. One such is the Jump service, introduced in Paris. North America has not remained untouched by these trends. The city if Vancouver in Canada, and most of the state of Oregon, do not allow for the presence of Uber cabs.

With tourism on the way back in Egypt, there are signs of economic revitalization. Inbound tourism had declined post the Arab Spring in 2011, but now foreign visitors are returning here. As per tourism consulting body, the WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council), tourism’s contribution to Egypt’s GDP went up by 16.5% in 2018. This economic progress however, comes at a cost for the local environment, which is seeing increasing pollution. The Red Sea offers more inexpensive delights for a number of European visitors in comparison to the Caribbean. The turquoise waters have been flooded with human and plastic waste, rendering much danger to the health of the corals.

One of the most sought- after tourist destinations in the whole of Africa, is Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania. Tens of thousands of hikers visit the country each year for scaling the highest peak on the continent. One of the new initiatives the government of Tanzania is taking up, in order to boost tourism, is the deployment of a cable car connection to the Shira Plateau, which is about two- thousand metres short of the summit. Plans are afoot to thus double the inbound tourism numbers through this initiative. This plan is not without its glitches though. Tanzania plans to emulate South Africa, that did similar work on the Table Mountains. The main opposition comes from the local mountain dwellers, as thousands are directly employed on tourism jobs related to scaling the peak. They work as guides, cooks and as porters. Once the cable car is done, few foreign visitors will then have the urge to go allthe way, using local help.

Like several other prominent European cities on the tourist trail, Berlin too has been suffering in recent seasons from the menace of over- crowding. To solve this, the city authorities will be tracking use of mobile data. This crucial business intelligence, will provide the authorities with a window to where travellers are congregating at different points of the day, and how to divert traffic away to reduce pressure at the major attractions. This data is to be provided by the Deutsche Telekom network. Recommendations will also directly be made to the travellers on routes that are less busy, and so more convenient for the travel part.
